Places to visit

In St. John's

- Jewish Cemetery

-Fluvarium - great for little kids!

-Johnson Geo Centre

-The Rooms

-Bowring Park

-Signal Hill

If you would like to buy NL crafts, two great places are:

-Quidi Vidi Plantation

-Devon House

-Cuckhold's Cove is a beautiful ocean lookout, hidden right in town. There is also a trail that goes from Cuckhold's Cove to Signal Hill.

-NOT for the kids! But great for adults:"Haunted Hike".

Near St. John's

-Cape Spear. The most easterly place in Canada. You can go to the old lighthouse keeper's house as well.

-Petty Harbour mini aquarium - Small, but great for kids and located in a beautiful fishing village.

-Salmonier Nature Park - a great chance to see the wildlife that lives outside our city. The walks are mostly boardwalks and can fit a stroller along them.

-Middle Cove - a beautiful natural beach. It's legal to have a bonfire there.

A bit farther, but worth going to

-Ferryland and the Colony of Avalon

-Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve (bird sanctuary) - (Note: this is along cliffs, so you will need one adult per child to hold on to them tightly).

-Mistaken Point - This is an amazing experience!

It's a challenging 3 km hike and you can see actual fossils on the ocean cliffs. NOT safe for younger children. However, a very worthwhile trip for adults!

-Boatrides to see the whales. There are many such rides offered within half an hour/45 minute drive from St. John's.
